The story

A platform built by hospitality people, not VC people.

We started in Madrid in 2018 because we kept hearing the same thing from every operator — whether they ran a tasting-menu restaurant, a gastropub, or a cocktail bar that didn't close until four: "I have eight tabs open and none of them talk to each other."

The food and the drinks worked. The marketing, the Google profile, the menu PDF emailed around, the ranking nobody knew how to read — that's what kept owners up at night. So we built a review tool. Then a Google profile tool. Then a rank tracker. We watched the same operators install all three.

The lesson was uncomfortable: the right product wasn't another tool. It was the layer that tied them together. A single screen for a single operator, whether they're plating in a kitchen or shaking on a service bar. One bill, one login, one source of truth.

We waited until the edge stack was good enough to host that layer at hospitality prices. By 2026, Cloudflare's combination of Workers, D1, Vectorize, and AI Gateway made it possible to run an AI-native, globally-fast SaaS for the cost of a mid-range VPS. That's when ALTO became inevitable.

ALTO means elevated, high, refined in Spanish. It's also where every plate — and every glass — goes, eventually: up to the pass. The name is the brief.

What we believe

Four principles, taped to the wall.

01

The room is the protagonist.

Every screen, button, and report is built for someone who's standing up, not sitting in a meeting. If a feature can't be used between covers — or between rounds — it doesn't ship.

02

Speed is a luxury.

A guest waits four seconds for a menu before they leave. We build on Cloudflare's edge because sub-50ms is the new minimum. Slow software is, eventually, lost revenue.

03

Own your guests.

Loyalty data is yours, exported the day you ask, never re-marketed to anyone else. Delivery platforms taught a generation of operators what platform capture looks like. We refuse.

04

Pay for the product. Not for every plate.

Commissions on orders are a tax on operators. ALTO is a subscription. We make money when you grow, not when you fulfill an order.

The technology

Edge-native, AI-first.

Every line of ALTO runs on Cloudflare's edge. No origin server. No region to choose. No CDN to configure. The same primitives Shopify, Notion, and Discord use — at a hospitality budget.

Workers run our API in 300+ cities. D1 holds your data at the edge as SQLite. Vectorize handles semantic search across menus, cocktail lists, and reviews. The AI Gateway routes every model call through cache, rate-limiting, and observability. R2 stores photos with zero egress fees.

A short timeline

Eight years of hospitality tech.

  1. 2018

A reviews tool launches for hospitality operators. Restaurants and gastropubs are the first cohort to adopt it.

  2. 2021

Google profile management ships — a calmer interface for restaurants, bars, and the nightlife scene.

  3. 2023

Geo-grid map rank tracking lands. Operators realize 'how do I rank?' finally has a real answer.

  4. 2026

ALTO bundles every layer onto one edge-native platform. The Growth OS for restaurants and bars is born.

Come build with us.

Whether you run one bistro, a single cocktail bar, or fifty venues across three cities, ALTO is the platform we wish we'd had at every stage.
